Slow burn relationship between Amy and Hunter is a nice thread between these books. This series is a spin-off which can be read as a standalone series. This book should be read in the order written for this spin-off. The serial killers is finally coming to the conclusion in this book. Or is it? Amy and Hunter's budding romance keeps getting interrupted by a secret society bent on creating unrest and killing in the most attention grabbing ways.
Returning back to the everglades of Florida, savaged bodies are turning up. What else turns up? Another toy horse, signifying the 4th horseman, Death. As with the previous books in this series, there is race against the clock to prevent another victim taken and killed in a gruesome manner.
The focus on this is solving the mystery. Several red herrings were thrown in to misdirect a reader. What I found a bit lackluster was Amy and Hunter in this story. They were not as memorable as the previous books. There seemed to be less character development. We do not learn much new about Amy or Hunter. Neither one seems to be growing either, almost as if they are ever steady and never changing. Which is okay as this is a plot driven story instead of a character progression.
This romantic suspense is recommended to readers who enjoy FBI thrillers and serial killer themes.
