Review: Still of the Night by Donna Grant

The plot thickens and does anyone else feel a "Stranger Things" vibe here on the Isle of Skye? For those who are hoping for answers, there are no answers in this book. There are many many new questions and subplots amongst subplots. The layers in this story keep me turning page after page to see what happens next. It is a dark and grimmer storyline as Ms. Grant foreshadows. This book should be read in the order it is published. Reading it as a standalone would miss the backstory of the various secondary characters showing up throughout the book.

This story feels like our world in someways now. There are people who want to take over and family who are no longer on good speaking terms. Marriages are breaking down. It feels like the world is coming apart. The division between the Scottish and London Druids is disturbing. Especially as the Scottish ones do not really know the London ones exist and did not care. Various enemies are coming out of the woodwork to destroy the magic (literal and figurative) of Skye.

What I enjoyed about this story, is the story of hope and second chances. Ariah is a blessed person who knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. And she lived in the best place to achieve her dreams. Unfortunately, her dream man, Killian had different thoughts. The look backs and regret Killian experiences as he is now more mature and can understand what he lost is touching. It is as if he suddenly wakes up and realizes the rest of his life will be meaningless. This perhaps midlife crisis brings him back to Ariah. These two still have a fiery spark even if there are open wounds that never healed due to their failed young romance.

I can genuinely say that I liked both characters. I admire Ariah and her tea shop. She is leading a life that she loves and she brings joy into people's world. As an avid tea lover, I wish I could take a step into the book to experience this wonderful tea shop of hers. To try some of her teas would be lovely and a delight.

This story brings out the worst in some of the people and I cannot wait to see what happens next. This is a roller coaster ride with betrayals, reconciliations, and loss. This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who enjoy second chance romances.
