Review: Healing Magic & Playboys by Lauren Connolly

★★★★★ #mustread

This entire series is deliciously fun to read. I didn't expect to have Sammy Reyes as the main character in this book. He's a bit annoying in the previous books and I didn't like him so much. Ms. Connolly does a great job of creating a more complex character and I love it. This book can be read as a standalone. It is one I will keep in my library to read over again, whenever I need a happy pick me up.

First of all, I love libraries and Librarians are usually one of my favourite people. Ava is an awesome librarian who has to navigate academic politics as well as outdated morality clauses. Having worked at two different places with morality clauses, I sympathize with Ava. What I like about Ava is how she comes up with a solution to her specific needs. It is genius! Plus, she stands up for herself.

Second of all, Sammy is a socially awkward person due to his upbringing and life experiences. As we learn more about his past and how he's been treated, I empathize with his plight. Both of these characters are relatable, even if they have magic.

Third, I love how the magic weaves in and out of this story. Seeing how the Elementals can casually use their powers is fun. Seeing how Sammy can use his powers for some erotic fun times was exciting. Ava's abilities are both hilarious at times and tragic. I like the balance.

At first this love story grated on me because I felt Sammy should just get over it and move on. As the story unfolds, his persistence grows on me. His intentions are so good. Ava could have been terribly cold and stuck up about it all. She is pleasantly open minded. These two unlikely pair and perfect for each other.

This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who enjoy character development, sexy sirens, and lusty librarians.

* I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
