Review: Dragon Ascending by Amy Beatty

★★★★ @AmyBeattyAuthor #bookreview #dragonascending

New to me author Ms. Beatty knocks my socks off with this first book in her series. I was not too sure what to expect. I loved it. I really enjoy high epic fantasies where there is a quest. A quest that requires the underdog to gather a band of misfits and get them to the desired end goal.

These appeal to me because it usually requires great character development. Erdik, our underdog hero, definitely meets these requirements. He is at a huge disadvantage for not being able to shapeshift into a dragon. I found it interesting that usually a knight is sent on a quest to slay a dragon to win the hand of his princess. Ms. Beatty takes this trope and morphs it into a fresh interpretation. Love it.

The world building in this story is well done. I found myself pulled into this tale fast and hard. I ended up devouring this book and quickly wanting to move on to the next book in the series. For those who have been looking for a good dragon fantasy, this is the book for you.
